04/09/2012 Video of a student restrained and shocked for hours at the Judge Rotenberg Center was played in court on Tuesday after a years-long battle by the center to keep it from the public eye. The video, which shows former resident Andre McCollins screaming, writhing in pain, and begging for help, was played at the start of McCollins' trial against the Canton-based Judge Rotenberg Center. The Rotenberg Center convinced a judge eight years ago to seal the video, and the battle continued up until Tuesday morning when their attorneys asked Superior Court Judge Barbara Dortch-Okara to bar FOX Undercover's camera from recording the video as it was played. Dortch-Okara denied the center's request, clearing the way to give the public the first look at how these controversial electric shocks are used. The video was taken by one of the center's classroom cameras. McCollins, then 18 years old, was shocked 31 times that day in 2002. Lawyers for the center and its clinicians say it was part of the treatment he needed to quell his aggressive behavior. "These are dramatic tapes, there's no question about that," said attorney Edward Hinchey, who represents two of the Rotenberg Center's clinicians. "But the treatment plan at the Rotenberg Center, the treatment plan that Andre had in place on October 25, was followed." It was an emotional day for McCollins' mother, Cheryl, who was in court watching as the beginning of her son's ordeal was played. Andre is shown seated at a desk inside ...

The staff members need to be chained to tables and subjected to hours of electric shocks themselves. Let them see what it’s like.
May 21st, 2012 - 13:59
even just following orders where the fuck is there humanity!? not 31 times, just once is to damn much. hell, if your going to do this you not only need to be shot, you need to feel the same thing. and they say near the end of the report that they were laughing, so what kind of treatment is his and what the fuck is wrong with humanitys idiocy.
May 21st, 2012 - 14:02
I blame EVERY staff member involved. “Just following orders” is not a valid defense.
May 21st, 2012 - 14:46
what the fuck is wrong with people? what kind of sick person laughs at this?
May 21st, 2012 - 15:29
“Don’t blame the staff members; most people are ignorant and flagrantly irresponsible to the point of endangering people around them! So they should go off the hook because they were probably just uninformed about that revealing experiment, too.”
May 21st, 2012 - 16:17
you cant blame the staff people, read the article of Milgram (milgram experiment)
it stated that people will follow orders from a higer hyrachie without question (in the case of the experiment it was more then 60% where capable of killing with orders) so don’t blame the staff blame the director of the facility.

Shock treatment? What is this, the 1800′s?
May 21st, 2012 - 17:19
Regardless of what the mother signed up for, the staff assaulted people in there care.
That it followed a treatment plan upgrades the offence from something staff did that managment *allowed* to happend to something that managment *proscribed* to happen.
I’m not a fan of fox news normally, I was aware this stuff was going on but wasn’t & still not equipped to communicate my concearns effectivly. Fox done right for a change & outdid the “liberal media”. Leftie cuddles to Fox from an OZ Aspie

Hey, we waterboarded Khalid Sheik Mohammed 180+ times and the Administration at that time called it legal. It was only a matter of time before authority figures lower down on the food chain would start seeing torture as a means of “disciplining” those who are powerless. We’re simply reaping the crop that Absolute Power sows when we ignore Lord Acton’s warning.

First of all this is not: electroconvulsive therapy (ect) used legitimately in bona Fide psychiatric units; patients are under general anaesthetic and the shock is given in a controlled manner with monitoring of a single unanaetherised extemity. It has specific indications such a severe post Partum psychosis and is effective with very quick responses.
What we saw here is quackery in which the shocks are being used as punishment as part of aversion therapy. If any registered physician was invol

I understand that sometimes special needs kids can be rough but they couldn’t find anything better then to shock the poor kid like that? Wouldn’t the shock cause even more damage to his brain, if I’m not correct.
May 21st, 2012 - 22:17
Pretty soon they start experimenting on patients like the Nazis did, with freezing, burning, and other biochemical weapons.
Sick bastards.
May 21st, 2012 - 22:39
The autistic kid is out of line, so they fucking tie him down and shock him? The mentally ill are still misstreated in this country.
